Hello Linda- so nice to hear from you, and thanks for listening. The Metolius –though abandoned in this poem–is under real threat and burning all around it due to the huge destructive fire outside Sisters, OR. I fear the land surrounding this section of this river in the poem will be changed for generations. It’s rather sad. And even our farm is surrounded by over 40 fires right now. This fire season is tremendously active. Challenging times.

Thank you for taking the time to comment about this poem! I mentioned in another response, the Metolius section this poem is written about is under threat now because of the huge fire outside Sisters, OR. I fear when I see this section of the river agin, it will be dramatically changed.

A listener from the Oregon Coast:
I hadn’t heard term “list poem” You’re afterword helped me listen without looking back. First time through I braked at surprising pairings and desert plant names. Second time through I floated downstream.
Good piece Sher

Thanks so much for your comments and for listening. It really does pay to read each poem twice, so listeners have a second chance to hear the work. And, I have noticed readers often read each time slightly differently, which can make a new impression upon the ear too.
