I definitely did not know George Carlin wrote any poetry! The concept of getting death out of the way is intriguing for sure. The closer we get to death the more we know it is coming, and we imagine the various ways it could happen. Imagine if that were not a thing to think about!

Isn’t it ironic that at the end of life we have the resources but not the mobility of drive to make certain choices. If we were in reverse and had more financial comfort when we were young we might dance longer and harder or go on difficult adventures to satisfy our wanderlust or do more social justice efforts. As it is, we spend so much time and energy seeking a comfortable retirement.

Thank you for listening and commenting. I love how this poem brings such various reflections. If we had the wisdom and resources when we were young, then I agree what good we might do. Interestingly dying as a baby or as a very, very old person –seem almost the same. It’s the middle that holds such different possibilities.
