   I grew up in New England and news of a whale beaching was always so sad. I was glad you included the journal entry for the context it provided.

      Thanks for listening and responding. We received such a wide response to this poem — some utterly loved it–some were reminded of the end of the movie _Flow_, and some found it so sad as to be almost unbearable. That made me feel sad for posting this poem, but it’s one I have never been able to forget. It moved me deeply, and some poems are hard but beautiful.
